Baldhead Mountain Trail
This is an extension of the Gadwah Notch Trail. The only thing that separates it is the fact that a service lane (obliterated unless you know where to look for it) comes uphill from the west to meet the CT. This service lane we used to pull materials up the mountain when the lean-to was built. The way has been sealed off by debris we threw down. People who are unfamiliar with the area would not even notice the service lane.
At the junction, the trail becomes the Baldhead MountainTrail and runs for a little less than a mile to the lean-to near the summit.
Trail rises gradually at first on nice footing, rounds a rock rib, crosses a gully and then climbs steeply in tight spruce and fir. In the steep section the trail is wearing but does not need erosion control now. There are some sink holes that should be filled in with logs.
The steep section ends shortly and the trail enters mixed forest and climbs easily to moderately. Minor clipping and blowdown removal are all that are needed in here. There is a switchback turn in one place that should get paint touch up to be sure people see the turn well.
Above the switchback, the trail rises steadily but not steeply in fine forest then levels out in a little clearing. It drops across a narrow seep and reaches an abrupt turn to the right. Check the sign and blazing here. Turn east now and follow a gully uphill for 600 feet or so. Cross the seep and climb a steep, slippery bank of stone, rising 10 feet, then level out and move east. Minor clipping and debris removal is all that is needed in this country. Insure that blazing is touched up.
Eventually reach the ridgheline that sees blowdowns often. Remove the blowdowns and clip the sunny exposed ridge a short distance until the lean-to moves into view.
The trail ends at the lean-to.
