THE COHOS TREKKER

Bull Moose on the Cohos Trail

President's Message

April is rapidly approaching and the days are getting longer and warmer. Much of the snow here in the north country is gone. There's still a good 1 to 1-1/2 feet left though.

I would like to take this time to thank all of you that have been sending in your donations and renewing your memberships. I would also like to thank those of you that are volunteering your labor for this coming summer. Your help is always appreciated. For those of you that haven't done so yet, there is still time before we start scheduling the trail work.

There is going to be a great deal of trail work done in the north country this coming spring and summer and we will be looking for volunteers to help us. Work on the new Prospect Mtn. trail from Young's store to the Round Pond area is scheduled to begin late this spring.

Other projects we are hoping to do this year are: build tent platforms in Dixville Notch for the state, the reroute of the Ben Young Hill Trail, the new Falls in the River Trail and putting up kiosks. Donations to help cover the costs would also be greatly appreciated.

If you would like to adopt a trail, please email us. We are in strong need of trail adopters in the north country. Adopters are always welcome to stay at Bear Ledge Campground or the Mountain Bungalow at no charge.

Beginning next issue, we would like to start a readers comments column. So send your trail adventure comments and/or stories to Cohos Trail.

Stay tuned for our second annual event at the Sportsman's Lodge. We hope to schedule this for 19 to 21 June. There was a good turn out last year. Hope to see more of you this year.

Happy Hiking !

HELLO FROM THE COHOS TRAIL

We're going to build 12 miles of new trail this summer, and we need your help doing it. Did you forget to send your donation? Your momma would not be happy.

So break the piggybank, clean out the closet, and send what you can to help fund and build all sorts of things. Here's what we want to do.

1. Prospect Mt.Trail. 2 miles

2.Covell Mt.Trail. 6 miles

3. Ben Young Hill Trail reroute. 1 mile

4. Dead Water Trail. 1 mile

5. Little Falls in the River Trail. 2-plus miles

6. Lots of bog bridging for the Moose Flowage Trail section behind Third Connecticut Lake

7. Scouting and GPSing new trail routes from Second Lake dam to Deer Mt. Campground

8. Design a big puncheon bridge run and bridge span for the closed Slide Brook Trail

9. Design and estimate repairs to an existing historic camp (hut) in Nash Stream Forest

10. Build two tent platforms near Huntington Falls in Dixville Notch

All these projects require time, energy, materials, and funds. We have raised quite a bit of money through grants for the trail work, but we still need extra dollars for the trail structures and to pay talented people and assist volunteers to carry out these tasks.

You might want to send that Wall Street bonus our way so you don't take quite so much flak.

Send your donation to the address below or go to The Cohos Trail and make your donation via Paypal.
