“Usually somewhere in NH”

Erica “Spitfire” Notini

Erica completed a SOBO thru hike of the Cohos Trail after first completing a NOBO thru hike of Vermont’s Long Trail in September of 2019. She has lived in NH for most of her life and grew up hiking the Whites. Despite this, she had never ventured north of Gorham. So, after completing the AT in ‘17, she sought ways to continue to be connected to thru hiker culture. The CT provided exactly the right opportunity.

A failed attempt at the CT NOBO in ‘18 due to injury only left her plotting a return, hungry for more. A gap in employment this past fall gave her the chance she needed, and she took it. She remembers the Cohos Trail as a classic sample of the best parts of the state. The wild and rough-around-the-edges nature of the trail resonated with the untamed child that Erica was. It gave her an opportunity to continue to explore and find new places in her “backyard” as she did when she was a kid – on foot.

Erica plans to continue hiking long distances for a very long time, and can be followed on her Instagram @the.spitfire or her website thespitfire.co.
